  • Weather-appropriate clothing (Edinburgh weather can be unpredictable!)
  • Your camera…there are some unbelievable photo-opportunities

That is not possible on the Group Tour but it can be arranged on our Private Tour. See the Private Tour page. On the Group Tour we do see and talk about the history of the Castle from several external vantage points.

On the Group Tour, our Guide normally stops around half-way through the tour at a suitable cafe. And, of course, you can indicate to the Guide if you need an emergency stop. On the Private Tour you can choose to stop whenever and wherever you wish.

Our Group Tours are restricted to an absolute maximum of 12 guests. We feel the tour is so much better that way, compared to tours that take 20, 30, 40 or more. And be assured, the tour still runs even if there are far less guests, even just one.

Our Group Tour is not really suitable for wheelchairs as there are some steps on the tour. However, if you book our Private Tour, our guide will choose the terrain and a pace of walking that is entirely suitable for you.

“Flawless tour from David! Our tour guide was a retired senior researcher and principal curator of Scottish history at the National Museum. His warmth, charisma and humour built immediate rapport and over the few hours of our tour he brought the history of Edinburgh to life. His authoritative knowledge and intellectual rigour meant that the tour was rich with information while never feeling overly complex."
